There are 2 typical types of plants, differentiated by how long their life cycle last: Annual and Perennial.

See §202109090938 Annual Plants and §202109090958 Perennial Plants.

In reality, there are also terms liek "hardy" and "half-hardy" annual, or tender perennial. And there's a third type called biennals, that combines some characteristics of both plant types.

Neither of them superior to the other. As they have different options of colors, texture, form and bloom time. So it's a good idea to mix them in the garden.
